March and April

Hello students, parents, and visitors!
It has definitely been a crazy few weeks with snow days and trying to get ready for programs!
Here is an update of what is happening in music for March and April:
5th Grade (Recorder)
• Up to this point we know the notes B-A-G-C. It is my goal to learn D and E before the end of the school year.
• Students are finishing up playing tests over March and Indian Chant and after spring break students will be tested over Folk Song Adapted and French Tune. These two songs ill help reinforce notes C and D. Students will also have a theory test over all the music staff, rhythms, and everything else we have learned about reading music so far.
4th Grade (Recorder and Musical)
• Students are finishing up testing over notes B-A-G using the song Hot Cross Buns.
• I will reinforce those notes by learning French Song and Merrily We Roll Along as a class.
• Starting March 24th, we will begin work on the 4th grade program “At the Bandstand.” This program will take place on May 7th.
3rd Grade (Form,Tempo, dynamics, and rhythm review)
• This class will complete a series of listening lessons to reinforce form, temp, and dynamics. They will work in centers and complete listening response journal entries.
• Afterwards, they will begin reviewing rhythm reading to prepare them for Mallet Madness at the end of April and beginning of may.
2nd Grade (Program)
• This grade level is working towards their program at the end of March.
1st Grade (Mallet Madness)
• This grade level will be reviewing rhythms quarter note, half, note, eighth note, and quarter rest.
• After spring break they will begin the Mallet Madness unit where they will learn about the barred musical instruments.
Kindergarten (Fast, Slow, Loud, Soft, quarter note and rest)
• This grade level will be completing a series of lessons that focus on fast/slow and loud/soft. Students will use scarves and non-pitched instruments to show those concepts.
• Students will also start learning about beat and no beat which will eventually be quarter notes and quarter rests.
