MUSIC Week 4-14-14

We are all getting geared up to start auditions for our Talent Show. Auditions start on Thursday April 17th and will go until next Friday, April 25th. Students who are interested in auditioning should see Mrs. Juechter to sign up for a time.
Here is an overview of what we are doing in music class this week:
5th Grade: They will continue with recorder this week. Students will review notes BAG and will learn C and prepare for next playing test over the song "March" in their recorder book.
4th Grade: Students will continue with BAG on recorder. We will prepare for the first playing test over "French Song."
3rd Grade: Students are continuing Mallet Madness on xylophones, metalaphones, glockenspiels, and membrane instruments. They will play quarter notes, half notes, whole notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests on the instruments.
2nd Grade: This group is learning about musical dynamics this week. Dynamics are the markings in music that tell us how loud or soft we should play or sing. The students will demonstrate different dynamics on non-pitched percussion instruments and then play the "Dynamics Dash" board game with a partner.
1st Grade: Students will identify quarter notes, eighth notes, and half notes. They will put those rhythms in their body by walk, jogging, and stretch. Students will play percussion instruments for the poem "Drum's Birthday" and will say and clap the poem "Little Bird."
Kindergarten: Students will move and sing "One Two Tie My Shoe." Then they will put the rhythms to the song on percussion instruments.

First Post of the New Year!

Hello and welcome to the Watt Hardison Elementary music classroom page! I am very excited to be a part of the WHE team and have had a really fun first semester. I am going to try and update this blog each week with pictures and lesson plans. I will also use this page to send reminders about choir rehearsal and performances. FYI CHOIR WILL BEGIN AGAIN IN FEBRUARY!! I WILL HAVE PAPERS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE GROUP ON MONDAY JANUARY 2OTH. The WHE PTO were kind enough to purchase some a couple area rugs for my classroom and I LOVE THEM!!
I really love these! Dance clips are for classes that finish their music lesson early and need an extra activity. One student will choose a random clip which will have a fun dance written on the back for the class to do! (Chicken Dance, Cha Cha Slide, etc.)
Here are some pictures from before holiday break of second graders perfoming on non-pitched percussion instruments. So fun!!
