Hello and Happy New Year!!


This month in Music...


5th Grade (RECORDER)
  • Review B A G with echoing, different warm-ups, and "Hot Cross Buns."
  • Playing test over "Merrily We Roll Along." (Looking for correct rhythms, tone, fingering, tonguing, and watching for rehearsal skills)
  • Introduction to C.  Recognize note on the staff and play with correct fingering.
  • Play "March" and "Indian Chant" 
  • Students will choose one of these pieces to play for a grade .  (Looking for correct rhythms, tone, fingering, tonguing, and watching for rehearsal skills)


4th Grade (Recorder)
  • Review B and A with echoing, different warm ups, and "AB Blues."
  • Introduce note G. Recognize note on the staff and play with correct fingering.
  •  Playing test over "Hot Cross Buns." (Looking for correct rhythms, tone, fingering, tonguing, and watching for rehearsal skills)
3rd Grade Non Pitched (Playing Rhythms on non pitched Instruments )
  • Have different categories of instruments set up in the four corners of the room.  Talk about each category and instrument.  Show students the correct way to play each instrument.
  • In groups, allow students to go to each corner and play with each instrument.  Walk around the room to insure instruments are being played correctly.
  • Review/introduce quarter/eighth/half notes/quarter rest.  Go over flash cards.
  • Have “Safari” on the screen and teach the song.  Talk to students about each animal being a different instrument. 
  • Students will clap rhythm of the words for each animal to figure out what rhythms go with each animal.
  • Play the different animal rhythmic patterns on instruments.  Rotate.
2nd Grade  ( Playing Rhythms on non pitched Instruments)
  • Have different categories of instruments set up in the four corners of the room.  Talk about each category and instrument.  Show students the correct way to play each instrument. 
  • In groups, allow students to go to each corner and play with each instrument.  Walk around the room to insure instruments are being played correctly.
  • Review rhythm flash cards with quarter, eighth notes and quarter rest.
  • Have “Rain on the Green Grass” on the board.  Clap rhythm of the words for each line to figure out what rhythms go with each line.
  • Play the different rhythmic patterns on instruments.  Rotate.
  • After this lesson 2nd grade will begin work on their music program "Hats."

 
1st Grade  (LOVE Program)
  • Students are working on songs, movement, and speaking parts for their upcoming program on February 19th. 
Kindergarten (Steady Beat/Fast and Slow)
  •  Read the story and have students make a snake sound every time they hear a s word. Listen to song and Teach “Silly Sam.”
  • Talk to students about using instruments/noise makers. Position 1: Instrument on floor hands in lap. Position 2: Instruments up and ready to play. 
  • Put instruments with song playing on the beat.
  • Teach song "Johnny Works With One Hammer."  Students will play shaker eggs and noise makers to the beat.
  • Talk to the students about fast and slow.  Have students raise their hand to tell things that are fast and slow.
  • Read the Turtle and the Hare story.  Discuss.
  • Play different songs with different tempos and have students keep a steady beat.
